Open Links By Default

After installing the ReVanced Music Extended, if you click on any YouTube music link, it will take you to the official YouTube Music App. Ideally, you would want to open song links in the ReVanced Extended App to get Ad-free experience and other features.

To do this, follow the steps below.

Either Uninstall or disable the official YouTube Music app.

Or if you don’t want to uninstall or disable the official YouTube Music app, go to Official YouTube Music app info, tap on Set as default / Open by default > Open supported links, select Don’t allow app to open supported links.

Now we will set the ReVanced Music app to open the songs in the app whenever you click on the song link.

ReVanced Music doesn’t offer direct download feature. Hence we are going to use an open source app called NewPipe to download videos for offline use.

Follow the steps below to set NewPipe as external downloader app for ReVanced Extended.

1. First you need to download NewPipe APK. Click on the download button below.

2. After downloading the APK, install it and then follow the steps below.

• Go to the YouTube Music Setting > ReVanced Extended > Action Bar
• Enable Hook Download button
• Select Package name of the downloader
• Add this package name org.schabi.newpipe and tap on OK

3. Now when you want to download any song, simply tap on Download button and it will download the songs using the NewPipe app.

There are some other open source apps like YTDLnis, Seal, NewPipe, NewPipe SB and DVD to download Music to your phone for offline playback.

You can also use close source downloader apps like YMusic, PowerTube, YTD and Snaptube.

How to Import/Export ReVanced Music Extended Settings

You can now take backup of the current ReVanced Music app and restore it. This is useful when you switch phones, reset your phone or reinstall the ReVanced Music Extended.

Go to ReVanced Music setting > Miscellaneous > Import / Export setting.

If you export, you will get .Json file that contains all your ReVanced Music settings data.

You can import this file that contains all your YouTube Music ReVanced in-app settings. Import it when you clear app data or reinstall YouTube Music ReVanced Extended.

Problems with Official YouTube Music

As an avid lover of music myself, I have used at least half a dozen music streaming apps. So I know the ins and outs of how a good music streaming app should work. In the process of writing this article I have used the YouTube Music app extensively to see how good it is. I have also explained why you should use an alternative app called ReVanced YouTube Music Extended. 

• Advertisements (Sometimes unskippable)
• Can’t listen to songs while using other apps or when you lock the screen
• Can’t download the songs and listen offline

Lots of Advertisements

First one is, as discussed above, Ads. After listening to a couple of songs, you are forced to see ads. Most of the time you can’t skip them and timing can vary from 10 seconds to 1 minute.

Being a dedicated app for music, it would have been much better for user experience to just show the display ads, that don’t interfere with the music playback. But that’s not the case, the whole point of listening to music on phone is not justified because you are bombarded with ads before and after most of the songs you listen to. 

Being an avid music lover myself, I can’t stand the idea of YouTube interrupting me with ads while I listen to my favourite playlist.

If you are using the Free YouTube Music app, apart from ads, there are some more things that can bother you.

No Background Playback in Free Version

Ideally, if you are using a dedicated music app like YouTube Music, you should be able to use other apps while you are listening to music or say lock the screen. But the free version of YouTube Music doesn’t allow you.

You can’t lock the screen or use other apps while you are listening to music. If you do so, the music will stop playing. This is again another issue I face while using the app. 

Most of the time, I just take out my phone, plug in the earphones and play some lofi music while I am working. But as soon as I turn off the screen, music stops playing. Come on, I am not supposed to keep the screen on the entire time when I am not even looking at it.

Or take another scenario, where I want to chat with my friends on discord. But at the same time. I want to listen to music and chill. you can’t do that if you are using the YouTube Music free version.

Can’t Download Music for Offline Use

There are some people who have got their playlist that contains a few of their favourite songs and they are happy with it. I am one of them. I don’t often explore new songs, instead I just try to stick to my favourite ones.

Bitrate Default Value – High

You can set the audio streaming quality to Always High when you are installing the app for the first time.

Custom Branding Icon

With this feature enabled, you can change the Official YouTube Music icon to ReVanced Music Extended. When you open the ReVanced Music Extended, you will see a splash screen and custom ReVanced Music icon. 

The theme of the splash screen will depend on the theme of the app. There are 2 themes available – Dark and Light.

Hide Get Premium Message

If you purchase the YouTube Music Subscription, you will be able to get rid of the Get Premium label from the account menu.

You can now remove that Get Premium label from YouTube while using ReVanced Music as well.

Player Settings

• Enable color match player – Change the color of the mini player to that of the  fullscreen player
• Enable force minimized player – It keeps the player minimized even if another the other song is played
• Enable new player background – Enables new player background
• Enable old style mini player – Change the mini player to the old style
• Enable Zen mode – Zen mode adds a gray tint to the player to reduce eye strain.
• Remember repeat state – If you enable the repeat mode, it will remember the state. So if you play a new song, it will be replayed automatically. No need for manual action.
• Remember shuffle state – Remember the shuffle state. Similar to the remember repeat state mode where it keeps the shuffle state enabled.

Video Settings

• Edit custom playback speed – Change the available playback speed. You can also change the playback speed manually.
• Enable save playback speed – Remember the playback speed value
• Enable save video quality – Remember the saved video quality
